How Fish Atlas identifies taxonomy sources, credits media and handles licensing.

Taxonomy and species data

Source records can include Catalogue of Life ChecklistBank, FishBase, GBIF, Atlas of Living Australia, EOL, FathomNet, iNaturalist Open Data, iDigBio, Naturalis, Smithsonian, CSIRO and Wikimedia Commons. A species page may be sparse when a claim cannot yet be supported in the selected language.

Images

Public images retain their work title, creator, source URL and license details. A license applies to the credited image, not to unrelated text or other media on the page.

Using material

Follow the license shown beside each image and verify the linked source before reuse. Site design, generated specimen imagery and unlabelled material are not automatically covered by an image's Creative Commons license.
