Halichoeres sanchezi, known by its common name, the tailspot wrasse, is a wrasse in the family Labridae. Halichoeres is a wide-ranging genus; the name comes from the Greek words for salt, alis, and pig, choiros, which likely refers to their blunt snouts. The species epithet sanchezi comes from the scientist who organized the expedition that discovered the species, as well as capturing the first specimen, Professor Carlos Armando Sanchez Ortiz.
