Astyanax bagual is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Acestrorhamphidae, the American characins. This fish is known only from the Taquari-Antas river basin in southern Brazil. It is unusual in the genus Astyanax because mature male specimens display bony hooks on the rays of all fins; in opposition, most others have them on the anal, pelvic, or pectoral fins - sometimes on more than one of these, but very rarely on all fins.
